Include information about how the dataset was created (such as what was being studied to produce the data), any specific instruments used, descriptions of scripts/code used to calculate/create the data files. Describe the process that would be needed to update or reproduce the dataset. If already documented elsewhere, can be a citation or a link to another document. An LAI-2200 Plant Canopy Analyzer (PCA) (LI-COR Inc., Lincoln, USA) was used to measure leaf area index. At each date, data was collected at multiple locations in the field either after sunrise or before sunset. At each location, one above-canopy reading and four below-canopy readings were acquired along the rows, and another one above-canopy reading and four below-canopy readings were acquired across the rows. The below-canopy measurements were made along diagonal transects between the rows, following the instruction manual for row crops. A 45◦ view cap was used to confine field of view over the whole season. Data collected at the multiple locations were aggregated to the field level, where the average and the standard deviation were considered as field-level leaf area index value and uncertainty, respectively.
